Cowersby is a small village in the southern part of the Falassian Empire, about a day's travel west of Laketon. It is Kilwin's hometown.

Description

Cowersby has a small population, consisting mostly of humans. Due to Cowersby's proximity to the Empire's border with Malino'dan, there is also a significant elven and half-elven population. It is a farming village, with dairy farming comprising the vast majority of the village's commerce. As a result, there are many cows around the village and the price of milk is markedly lower than in other parts of Lyvernus. Other forms of farming, such as crop farming and shepherding, also take place in Cowersby, but aren't as prominent. The farmers of Cowersby seem to be either untrusting or envious of technological advances utilized by other farmers: plant-based milks and the magically enhanced tools used in Terrath have been subjects of their gossip and condemnation. The buildings in Cowersby tend to be fairly rundown and few of the villagers possess much in terms of material wealth, but the residents typically provide for each other in times of need. The climate is fairly temperate, and it rarely snows during winter.

The Nervous Turkey

The Nervous Turkey is a combination inn, tavern, and general store, run by Laucian. It is the only one of any of these establishments in the Cowersby. While few people move to Cowersby permanently, merchants and travelers sometimes stop to rest on their way to and from Laketon, and the Turkey is their only real option for a place to stay or restock. Despite this apparent monopoly, prices at the Nervous Turkey remain fairly reasonable.

Temple of Alethus

Cowersby's Temple of Alethus is the village's main center of worship. It houses the village's clergy, as well as any orphans or foundlings residing in Cowersby. It also contains a classroom where the clergy and paladins in service to the temple serve as teachers for the village's children. The temple is currently led by Glasny Whitehall and Honora. It was also the place where Kilwin was raised and his current residence in the village.

History

Although Cowersby has existed for some time, it is generally a sleepy village and has few historical events to speak of. At some point in the past, a gnomish cleric of Alethus from Falas named Glasny Whitehall arrived in the village to serve as one of the temple's head priest. In Winter's Dawn of 573, an infant was found abandoned near the temple. When the infant went unclaimed, he was named Kilwin and raised at the temple, eventually becoming a cleric of Alethus as an adult. These qualify as historical events in Cowersby.

When the Champions Valoris visited Cowersby so Kilwin could introduce them to the people he grew up around, they learned that Len, one of Kilwin's more troubled peers, had left the village and joined a group of bandits. The adventurers managed to bait the bandits into ambushing them to draw out Len and convince him to return to the village. Although several bandits did not survive the encounter, the plan was ultimately successful and Len left the life of banditry behind.
