Rilineth, or "Slumberjack", was a fallen aasimar fighter with drow heritage and former member of The Champions Valoris. Though they were relatively secretive about themselves it was apparent that Slumberjack abided by no conventional moral code, evidenced by their occasional engagement in self-exsanguination and sacrificial rituals. Despite this 'quirk', they made great behavioral and emotional improvements thanks to their dear friend, Kilwin.

While uncommon for the aasimar, Slumberjack's experiences with their Guide were largely negative, having previously described it as a constant internal battle for mental space and autonomy. As such, Slumberjack greatly valued silence and personal freedom, often going to extreme lengths when they feel 'trapped'. They also abided by a code of 'actions over words' and based personal judgements with similar metrics. One of the most surprising things about Slumberjack was that they were a staunch vegetarian and avid lover of floral teas, and would ask for split tea soup at every inn they stayed at.

Description

Appearance

Slumberjack cut an imposing figure in both frame and attire, and was quite hard to miss in a crowd. At a staggering 6ft 3in, they towered over the standard drow, and often experienced difficulty in small, cramped spaces like the standard tavern bed or carriage. Despite rarely removing their blackened steel and chainmail armor, the ease at which they carried themselves (and others) indicated a muscular frame honed from years of combat and hard labor. While in their armor, their startling white-grey eyes were the most easily seen physical feature of Slumberjack, but were also the most unnerving.

Though rare, the Champions Valoris have seen Slumberjack without their armor. Similar to other drow, they had grey skin and long, flowing black hair kept in a tight braid to avoid an enemy grabbing it in combat. Their skin was covered in an mix of black-ink tattoos and scars, with the two often mixing together in strange patterns across their back and down their arms; though Slumberjack did not disclose any meaning or purpose behind these tattoos, their distinct lack of comfort discussing them said otherwise.

As of their encounter with the Champions Valoris in the Temple of the Abyssal Guardians, one of the wings of Slumberjack's Necrotic Shroud was permanently active. However, it appeared broken and got in their way as they move.

Personality

  • Strengths: Pragmatic, loyal, unyielding.
  • Weaknesses: Paranoid, short-tempered, vindictive, cold.

Slumberjack's strained relationship with their Guide, traumatic past, and criminal status made them extremely cold and suspicious towards those around them, making their efforts at self-preservation perceived as being cruel and vindictive or disconnected from others; Slumberjack doubled down on this perception, often citing 'if others think [they are] a villain, [they] might as well be one'. Yet, Slumberjack was quick to act--even if the act may not be beneficial to everyone--and was stubbornly resolute once they made a decision, refusing to be swayed by the concerns or thoughts of others. Though they had a hard shell, Slumberjack was extremely loyal to their friends and chosen family and put themself in harm's way to ensure they were safe.

Character Information

Goals

Slumberjack's ultimate goal was to understand the true nature of their Guide and, if necessary, sever the connection between to two of them. They would also say that finding the best split pea soup and cup of hibiscus tea was as deeply important to them as avenging their mother.

Notable Relationships

Slumberjack and Erak

Slumberjack and Erak often butted heads, with the latter finding Slumberjack's 'enjoyment' of violence and needless butchery disgusting, leading to a very strained relationship. In true Slumberjack fashion, they did little to repair this friendship; instead they took great joy in taunting Erak after fights regarding their respective kill counts and often distanced themselves from Erak due to past experiences with the drow. Despite this, Slumberjack wanted to repair their relationship with Erak, and hoped to one day be able to call him their friend, or at least more confidently call him their ally.

Slumberjack and Jorah

Slumberjack initially only tolerated Jorah's company because of the ranger's dog, Julius. As the two began to spend more time travelling and fighting together, Slumberjack came to deeply respect Jorah's ability with a bow as well as genuinely like him. Though both are on the quieter side, Slumberjack enjoyed the moments they had together, whether it was in the thrill of battle or passing a mug around a campfire, and would have laid down their axe for him. Slumberjack also loved Julius, and had several leather-wrapped sticks stuffed in their bedroll to give to the dog when they made camp.

Slumberjack and Kilwin

Though their relationship began more like enemies than anything, Kilwin was the first person Slumberjack trusted and called their friend. After opening up about their Guide and being met with understanding and support, Slumberjack had been unsure of how to respond and had been quite suspicious of the man. Kilwin's unrelenting kindness and overall support for Slumberjack's healing fundamentally shifted something inside of them and broke a wall that had hid their heart for decades. Slumberjack viewed Kilwin with the utmost respect and genuinely enjoyed the man despite their past differences. Even if Kilwin is more than able to take care of himself, Slumberjack would have sooner been injured than let Kilwin be harmed in combat, and would have gone to any lengths to ensure their friend was safe and happy. Slumberjack would never admit it, but they considered Kilwin their abbil, or their closest friend.

Slumberjack and Reides

Slumberjack was well aware that Reides was wary and/or fearful of them to some degree and understood it was mostly due to their past actions and overall poor personality. Slumberjack remained somewhat distant with Reides not by personal choice, but out of anxiety about invading his space or potentially causing him distress. They deeply cared for Reides and what he thought of them, and also deeply respected his background as a scholar and the depth of his knowledge. Though pressed to admit it, Slumberjack feels an odd sort of kinship with the triton and would have enjoyed becoming closer with him.
